Redwood Medi Spa in Toronto

Southasians are people of all colours and sometimes its hard to find a spa that caters to all kinds of skin. You can be Pakistani and yet be very fair in skin tone. From Indians, Sri Lankans, Bangladeshis, Nepalis and Afghanis as well as Pakistanis, all southasians are different looking yet categorized in the southasian subcontinents. Over 400 languages are spoken with a varitey of religions and cultures. So, to find a spa that deals with all kinds of skin colours and tones would be like finding a needle in a haystack. However, Redwood Medi Spa, was one spa that actually took the time to talk about Southasian skin.

Redwood Medi Spa‘s mandate is to listen and build relationships through extensive communications with their clients, members of the community and industry partners. They stand true to their mandate, as when I walked into the spa, I was curious to see what I would need for the hyperpigmentation that all southasians face! When meeting the owner of the Redwood Medi Spa, Maggie, she put me to an instant ease and looked at the problems on my face and instantly said that there is a laser for coloured skin that helps with hyperpigmentation. Laser for southasian skin colour is something that we could not even comprehend a few years ago and now its there to treat the number one problem we southasians face in our daily lives!

The laser is the Picosure Laser and this laser addresses skin concerns like freckles, sun spots, discoloration, and unwanted tattoo ink. The laser improves skin texture such as scarring and wrinkles. The laser converts laser energy into gentle pressure waves to activate cell signaling to create new collagen and start the body’s natural immune response. The PicoSure device delivers energy in picoseconds; the delivery is so quick that it spares the skin from high thermal damage while optimally targeting unwanted pigment, wrinkles, acne scars and pores with less downtime than traditional lasers and thats what makes it completely safe for all types of skin colours. Unlike lasers in the past that relied on intense heat energy which caused pain and led to significant skin redness and downtime, this gentler treatment provides impressive results without the associated discomfort and downtime of traditional lasers.

I was told by Maggie, that I needed 3 sessions, 4 weeks apart. Besides that, I was told to start using Vitamin C in the morning and Retinol in the night time as part of my skincare regime, as it prepares the skin for the Picosure session.

When I started my first session, it was great to see how Maggie communicated beforehand about the whole procedure.  I was asked how my pain tolerence was as the picosure laser is well tolerated by the skin but some patients prefer the numbing cream. I chose the numbing cream as I was not sure what to expect. When the session started it was as though the laser was burning off the dark spots and I could smell it. The whole procedure took about 20 minutes for the numbing and 20 minutes for the Picosure session.

The next day, the hyperpigmentation spots on my face did darken a bit, but as days went by the face became clearer and brighter. I was amazed at the Picosure laser and how Redwood Medi Spa took the time to explain and keep me at ease about the whole procedure. I have two more sessions pending and what excites me is that if one session brought so much difference to my skin, then just imagine what a total of 3 sessions would do! As I look forward to the rest of the sessions at the Redwood Medical Spa in Toronto, I am very pleased that Picosure Laser is a laser for all skin colours and targets those hyperpigmentation spots that we southasians suffer from on a daily basis. It is an overall sign of relief!
